Sweet Andy puts up with a bedroom fit for a grandma. To be fair, the quilt isn’t usually out but I brought it back recently as a prop for a “bed and breakfast” photoshoot for work. Overall the room is cute though just not right for a tall bearded man. But it’s all changing soon!

This is the plan. It really all began with my absolute need for a new mattress. The mattress we have now is from Ikea and I never liked it. Six years later, I rarely get a full night’s rest and have lower back, shoulder, and neck pain much more often than someone my age should. It also made sense for us to upgrade from a full to a queen (it’s me, Andy, and Penelope sharing after all) so we needed a new bed.
Because I can’t just stop there, we’ll be getting new sheets, a new duvet, and a blanket to protect the duvet from Penelope. We already have the wardrobe and the curtains but the dresser will be new for us – I have a friend getting rid of one so this will be a cheap upgrade. We’ll be getting two of the same rug to cover the majority of the hardwood floor in the bedroom. Unfortunately, someone did a terrible job in refinishing a large portion of the floor and it’s chipping up all over. I have ruined so many pairs of tights and socks in this floor that I simply can’t deal with it anymore.
Still up in the air are nightstands, a mirror, prints, lamps, and where my iMac will go. We ordered the mattress this weekend, the bed will be ordered tomorrow, and the rest will follow. Oh, and painting the walls white will make all the difference in the world.
Here’s a quick SketchUp drawing of the layout for good measure. I made a 3D model of the Double Decker Bed (the bedding model was borrowed) during one of my sleepless nights.

We’ve had the Hemnes dressers (a tall one and a long one) for about three years and they still look great. I always thought the white finish on these was much nicer than some other IKEA surfaces.
Also, did you make that quilt? I’m just getting into quilting myself…
Hemnes is some of the best stuff Ikea makes and it goes with so much. The stripey yellow drawer lining is perfect.
The quilt is actually from Urban from a few years ago. I tried to get into quilting about 4-5 summers ago. There’s a bag with a million cut triangles and some batting somewhere. I’m hoping the ingredients for the quilt, stored together, will turn themselves into a quilt over time out of boredom.
Are you learning from a book? This is the one I bought, Denyse Schmidt is amazing: http://www.amazon.com/Denyse-Schmidt-Quilts-Colorful-Patchwork/dp/0811844420/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1300068699&sr=8-1 .
I’ll have to check that out! I’m actually following an online tutorial because they explain every step in great detail and I didn’t want to have to think too much the first time around. I have the top and back done but our house is too small to sandwich it and get started on the actual quilting, haha.
