After being overseas for 8 months I’ve learned more than I want to know about myself. I’ve learned about the world, my traveling partner, what things I really like and also what I really dislike. It’s been an amazing opportunity to see the world from many different perspectives and make note the things that will change once I arrive home.
One of the best parts of traveling for me is seeing and meeting new people. Whether they are locals or travelers, the experience to meet people around the world is an adventure. We spend a lot of our time people watching and experiencing how people either live and survive in their environment or how they travel.
The BF really likes to see what other travelers are packing. Do they have big packs? small packs? I think his new motto….”You can tell a lot about a person by the way they pack.” We are finding this statement to be fairly true.
Any trips that we take will be much simpler. Although, compared to most backpackers we are still on the light side, we want even lighter.
2103 we will let go go the stuff and live a little lighter. This will be true even as we transition home. We sold all of our stuff over a year ago, this gives us the opportunity to start over and live with less.
In 2013, we are packing light and living lighter.
I am not a mean person, I won’t talk behind your back. But I think we are guilty of calling out other peoples flaws before we learn about our own. This trip has taught me to embrace my flaws and work towards being a better, more positive person.
In 2013, I will erase the negativity and flaws.
When we do finally go home (February) it will indeed be a culture shock. We have spent so much time in less advantaged countries, and have learned so much about living a life of love and kindness. I fear that when we get home these small acts of kindness and positive virtues with fade.
In 2013, continue small acts of kindness and not get wrapped up in the busy stresses of life.
One of my biggest loves in life is music. It’s been 10 months since I’ve seen a live show. Staying in touch with the music scene has been a challenge. Luckily, I’m blessed with some amazing friends who keep me up to date.
In 2013, listen and see more live music.
I took Spanish in high school, and I have used more Spanish on this trip than ever before but I still can’t have a decent conversation. Not for long. I plan to take lessons and travel some more so that I can speak fluently.
In 2013, speak Spanish fluently.
The piano. I plan to start playing the piano again. I’ve got the long fingers for it, why not?
In 2013, play a musical instrument.
I am confident 2013 will be as wonderful as 2012. I was very blessed to be able to embark on this around the world trip. 2013 is our coming home year. I am excited to see what that brings.
